Re-Member (1999)

These photographs are based on the idea of the self-portrait. I selected imagery from personal documents that record various physical, spiritual and political journeys I have taken. From travels through Mexico, political activism, wandering through urban landscapes, the spaces I have entered narrate a complex yet conflictive story. These images projected on the body reflect the collision, fusion and welding of disparate worlds and ideas. Divisions between interior and exterior spaces, past and present, society and the individual become blurred. Impulses toward resistance and self-definition silently rage.
