Incantation to Los Angeles was filmed on an eight- mile walk that followed the former route of the Pacific Electric Railway’s Sierra Vista line built during the early 20th century. Beginning in downtown and ending in El Sereno in Northeast LA, this walk traverses various race and class lines built into the city, a legacy of the railway’s owner, Henry E. Huntington. This film is part of an on-going research-based project, To Oblivion! that looks at Los Angeles’ past to understand its present, through an inquiry of the now defunct private company, the Pacific Electric Railway, the most extensive inter-urban transportation system in the country at its time.
